Frances Smith McCoy, 80, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Mrs. McCoy was the daughter of George W. & Mary F. Smith, and the widow of George D. McCoy, Sr.

Dunnie as she was called by all who loved her, made her home in the City of Chesapeake where she was raised in the Grassfield section of Chesapeake. She graduated from Deep Creek High School, raised her children in Chesapeake and retired from the City of Chesapeake. While serving the City of Chesapeake she was a school bus driver and worked at the Tidewater Detention Home as matron. She also had worked at C&P Telephone Company.

Mrs. McCoy is a past council member of the Job's Daughters Bethel #11, and recently was honored as a 50 year member with the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #16. She was also a member of the Chesapeake Ladies Shriners' Hillbilly Group.

Survivors include her sons, George D. McCoy, Jr. and wife Margaret Ann McCoy, Charles Royce McCoy and wife Shirley McCoy, all of Chesapeake, VA. She also leaves to cherish her memory three grandsons who affectionately knew her as "Nannie", Ryan McCoy and wife Wendy of Portsmouth, VA, Adam McCoy and wife Emily of Chesapeake, VA, Shawn McCoy and wife Ashley of Anchorage, AK.

Mrs. McCoy is also survived by her sister, Lillie Quillin and husband Charles. She is predeceased by her sister, Patricia Ullom.

She was much loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She touched many people during her life and will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Deep Creek United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Deep Creek United Methodist Church of Chesapeake and the church food pantry. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
