Phillip Lee Streit, 70, of the 2300 block of Wharton Ave., passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at his home.
Born in Topeka, Kansas, Phillip was retired from the U.S. Navy where he played in the Naval Academy Band for seven years and also taught at the Armed Forces School of Music at Little Creek. He was also a retired social worker.
He was a member of Ocean View Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam and a member of the Navy Musicians Association, Fleet Reserve and the VFW. He was also an honorary member of the Red Hat Society and Alumni of Norfolk State University.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Elizabeth Streit of Norfolk, VA; four daughters, Athena Marks, Michele Kerner, Tonya Hansen, and Susan Q. Scherer; two sons, Phillip M. Streit and Timothy W. Streit; and fourteen grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at Ocean View Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Combs officiating. The family will receive friends in the social hall following the service. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
