Hey everyone. This is Dennis' daughter, Katelyn.
It's been quite a few years since he passed away, and I'm 14 now... just wanted to say thank you all for writing such nice things on here. It really is heartwarming to be able to read these and remember some neat things about him... He really was such a great guy, and he was always so unique too! My dad was just... well... He was just so Dennis! Haha. He was always just so himself with his ever lasting smile, his laugh that could be picked out of a crowd, and, well, I know that we'll all remember all of the fond memories that we had with him.

I love you, Dad.

Katelyn, and the rest of her family; I never got to meet Mr. Dayrit, but from all of the happy, sad, funny, or exciting stories I've been told, I feel like I do know him.
I've been Katelyn's best friend since the 6th grade, and deeply wish I could have met such a great person.
I send best wishes towards the Dayrits.
Bailey.

We were extremely sorry to hear of Dennis' passing. Although we had not seen him for a few years, we have fond remembrance of him. He was a super kid who grew up to be a super guy. My dearest Susan,Danny & Diana & family,
I still can't accept the fact that Dennis is no longer w/ you/us.
I am so sad, sorry for not sending him those photos taken during our trip/cruise from New York to Boston,Maine,Portland,Sydney,Nova Scotia,Halifax ( which he arranged for me,Medy,Noni & Faustine ) last Sept 2002- -to thank him for the very nice accommodation ( cabin upgrade ) he/Terrapin travel did for us( our cabin was so nice> almost on top -close to heaven!
He's a very wonderful young man. Missed him..so much....
July 1997 was the first time I met him at your Va Beach house during our nursing class reunion and ( GOD KNOWS ) it would have been my last meeting w/him last month ( July ) when you and Dennis were vacationing here in southern CA/Los Angeles areas..which I missed due to some unavoidable circumtances.
Hugs and kisses to his daughter from me and I hope to meet her someday, soon.
God Bless.

Dear Dayrit Family, Katlyn, and April,

My husband and I (Billy and Dana) were so close to Dennis in these past few years actually we were friends for 10 years. We watched Katlyn grow up to the beautiful girl she is today, and wow she is so much like him, talented, strong and brave!!!!....we spent most of our weekends with Dennis and his daughter, she became friends with our daughter Taylor even though the age difference, Katlyn was/and is a great friend to Taylor just like her father was to us. I will miss him so much, I went to sleep many nights with Dennis playing and singing the Grateful Dead, he was top notch. We had long talks about life and the future. I miss him so much, I miss the music he made, the words he said, the smiles he created. He was so dear to me and my family. I just have to know God has a greater plan for Dennis. We hold him close, everyday we are reminded of him its like he is still here. We laugh, we cry, we joke like he was still here, He will never be forgotten, We love you Dennis. We miss you so much.
our hearts go out to the family,
Billy, Dana and Taylor

I was one of Dennis' room mates while we were all going to ODU. Dennis was a great friend and we all shared a lot of fun times together in our crazy "hippy house".

It's very hard right now thinking that Dennis is gone. I will always remember him with that big grin of his on his face- he was someone who loved life and was always laughing.

I'm very thankful that Dennis was a part of my life, and I know he's looking down on us right now with that big grin...

Diana, my sweet-dear old friend, and the entire Dayrit family: I am so deeply sorry for the pain you are all certainly feeling. I have such warm memories of afternoons around your pool and wonderful aromas from the food that was always cooking. I also remember being a high school-age girl enthralled with Dennis and all his advice on how to "handle myself" at a Dead show, among other bits of advice. I would run into Dennis from time to time playing music around town. He always spoke to me with warmth and a smile...That is how I will remember him forever. My thoughts and friendship always, Marian

My family (& extended family at NoVa BMX) wish to extend our condolences for the loss of Dennis. We were all in shock. Dennis & I raced together at Starlit in the early 80's. I always remembered him as a crazy fast little kid who always had a smile on his face. We lost touch for many years until we met up at the state race in Woodbridge. Seems we had both returned to the sport we loved as kids. It was good to get reacquainted & hang out some at the state races last year.
Saturday, our track director, Paul, gave a short speech at the track & asked for a moment of silence in Dennis' memory. He also dedicated the flag lap to Dennis & I was honored to to be asked to carry the flag. I also ran a piece of black tape across my # plate in his honor.
We are all very shocked & saddened by Dennis' passing. He was a great guy who always did his best, always smiled, & was fun to be around. He will be deeply missed. If you need anything, don't be afraid to turn to the VA bmx family. We are always here to help. Your family will be in our thoughts & prayers. God bless.
